What you can do
- Interactively build simple organic molecules
- Learn the valence structure of different elements
- Practice spatial reasoning by rotating structures around individual bonds and in 3D space
- See why some molecules are bent (H2O) and others are straight (CO2)
Using the preview
This build is a preview release — some features are intentionally limited while the program is in active development.
- Add atoms using the buttons at the bottom of the window; they appear at random positions in 3D space
- Move an atom by left-clicking and dragging it
- Click empty space and drag to rotate the camera
- Small red spheres mark free valence electrons; small blue spheres mark lone pairs
- Bring two atoms close enough and a bond indicator appears — release to form the bond (blue for single, red for double)
- Click a bond to reveal a slider that rotates the structure around it
- Right-click to reset the camera; use Clear to reset the workspace
Current preview limitations
- The embedded structure database, saving, and the periodic table view are disabled
- Kinetic motion of electrons, atoms, and molecules is disabled
- The in-app help system is disabled
- Deleting a bond via double-click is not yet reliable
